EUROPEAN 5G-ENSURE PROJECT IMPROVES THE SECURITY OF THE INTERNET OF THINGS

Nixu Corporation is involved in the EU-funded 5G-ENSURE project which focuses on the information security of the new 5G network. The objective of the project is to plan how to ensure information security in networks based on the new 5G standard.

The new 5G technology, which is currently in the development phase, marks a significant step in wireless data communications. It will be the next major development stage following the current fourth-generation mobile networks. 5G marks a significant change in the transfer of data. It offers faster and more reliable network connections with a shorter delay than in current networks. 5G is intended for data transfers in city centers where the number of users is high. However, a number of problems remains unsolved, an important one of which is information security in the next generation's data transfer network. The 5G network enables networked devices, which signifies an increase in the use of the Internet of Things (IoT). This offers a number of opportunities, while emphasizing the importance of network security.

The problem of information security and reliability of the 5G network is to be resolved by the 5G-ENSURE project, consisting of European operators. In addition to Nixu, it involves Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Orange, among others. The total value of this EU-funded research project is EUR 8 million to be divided over two years.

"Through the 5G network, we are facing a major transformation. The IoT presents new opportunities for social functions, while it emphasizes the need for cybersecurity. Nixu's good reputation within the field, combined with our extensive experience in information security in data communications and long-term cooperation with hardware manufacturers, enabled us to access this internationally significant project. The 5G-ENSURE project places us in an excellent position to have an impact on the security of the new network technology. Above all, it strengthens Nixu's position as the leading European expert in data communications security in the IoT segment," says Kim Westerlund, CDO at Nixu Corporation.
